Because of our sin, we were separated from God, unable to be His friend. We had a price to pay for being sinful and the price was death (Romans 6:23). The only way that we could get out of owing that payment for sin was if someone else died in our place. But not just anyone could do it. No, it had to be the perfect sacrifice. It had to be someone who actually had never sinned. So God made Jesus, who knew no sin, become sin in our place (2 Corinthians 5:21) so that we could be right with Him.
When Jesus died on the cross, He took on all of the sin of the world. Everything we’ve ever done wrong was paid for in that act. But, did you know that Jesus did more than just die for our sin? In order to be right with God, a person has to be righteous (that means we’d have to be perfect). Since we can’t be perfect, even after Jesus took all of our sins (We would just commit more sins), He gave us HIS righteousness. He took our bad and gave us His good.
Now, if we trust in Jesus to forgive our sins, we become children of God! We get to be part of God’s family! There’s more on that in tomorrow’s devotion.
Do you have 1 Corinthians 15:22 memorized yet? “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.”
