The penalty for sin

In this life we have consequences we have to face for when we do bad things or break the law.  For you it might be something like being grounded from electronic devices for a certain amount of time until you apologize for something.  For adults it might be getting arrested and put in jail for doing something really bad.  But God has given an even bigger price to pay for our sin.

In Romans, it says that the wages (that means payment or price) of sin is death (Romans 6:23).  That doesn’t mean we just die instantly when we sin, it means the result of our sin is that we end up having to die and be separated from God.  This is the same for everyone.  No one can buy their way out of it or even do enough good things to be forgiven.  Remember the verse from yesterday? Romans 3:23 says that everyone has sinned.  Everyone but Jesus.

The good news is that the one person who never sinned paid the price for our sin.  He did it in our place.  We’ll still die when our lives are over here on earth, but we’ll be with God in heaven if we’ve trusted in Jesus, instead of separated from Him forever.  Tomorrow we’ll look more at what it was that Jesus did for us.

Keep memorizing 1 Corinthians 15:22 “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” Do you know what that means yet?
